Multiple sources close to Dany Heatley have informed TUC that the winger (and his agent J.P. Barry) are seeking a seven-year deal from the Senators, in the range of 49-54 million (all terms US) -- Heatley will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2007-08 season. While we find the length of the contract a bit much, the amount seems ironically bearable given the current free market insanity we've witnessed thus far. As a fellow media member put it to us this aft, "Wince, grit the teeth and then do the deal."
Thoughts? For the record, we've expressed our feelings on any recent Sens' cap space made available in this week's column.
